On this day, 19 November 1900, German communist and anti-Nazi activist Anna Seghers was born into a Jewish family in Mainz. She wrote a novel in 1932 warning of the dangers of fascism, Die Gefährten, which led her to be arrested by the Gestapo. When released she left the country, eventually fleeing to Mexico Gf->N `N
